Veterinary – Equine Prohibited Substance List

The Board followed the recommendations of the FEI List Group and approved the addition of the following three substances to the Equine Prohibited Substances List:

  • Emidonol (anti-ischaemic) – Banned Substance – Emidonol contains meldonium, a banned substance
  • Nalmefene (opioid antagonist) – Banned Substance – The substance has sedative effects and no legitimate use in the competition horse.
  • Sulfasalazine (disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs) – Controlled Medication – Sulfasalazine metabolises into 5-aminosalicylic acid.

These changes will be sent for consultation to the National Federations shortly and will be presented back to the Board in September for their final approval. The objective is to implement the modifications as of 1 January 2023.
